Cool people know cool people
I promise I’m not going to harp on about ordinary New Zealanders who achieve great things – I was talking about Sir John Kirwan last time, remember – but there are a more than a few of them around to shout about.
A new TV programme, Dreamcatchers UK, is the brainchild of former model and TV presenter Hilary Timmins, which highlights the stories of industrious Kiwis making their dreams happen. The pilot includes a bunch of cool people, like Emilia Wickstead, whose designs are regularly worn by The Duchess of Cambridge, Samantha Cameron and the glitterati. She also designed the uniforms for the staff of the trendiest eatery in London, the Chiltern Firehouse. (Get a table there if you’re famous enough!)
Snowden Hill, who dresses the tresses of A-list stars like Jessica Biel, pop stars like Kylie, and top models like Gisele Bundchen, for endless high fashion campaigns and catwalk shows.
Kent Gardner, the Chief Executive of Evans Randall, whose fundraising efforts created the “Step Up 4 Christchurch” event, a charity stair run up the 1,037 steps to the top of the 180m tall ‘Gherkin’ office tower in the City of London, for those affected by the Canterbury earthquake (and aftershocks), and he created the biggest ‘officially signed-off’ signage in London during the 2012 Olympics, with a huge banner on NZ House in Piccadilly advertising NZ.
Oh, and me.
I’m honoured to be in such great company! Cool people know cool people.
Hilary and her partner Rob Whitehouse, a Kiwi film producer who is also powering this idea through to fruition, hope Dreamcatchers will be screened on TV and online around the world to inspire young people to go out and live their dreams, no matter what.
It’s caught the attention of the NZ Herald which featured a story on it and hopefully it won’t be long before I’m telling you where and how you can watch it.
But for now, it’s back to living in the moment, for the moment, maxing out the moment.
